Trauma Responsive Approach
YOUTH8 has been created to support children and young people that need it most.
The young people we support all have their own personalised plan created to suit their needs. We do this in a number ways, by assessing their Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), their resilience and current emotions to name a few. From this, we are able to create positive specific outcomes for each individual.
The most import aspect of our delivery is engagement. Without it we are unable to achieve anything. At YOUTH8 we use our 8 rules of engagement. To engage successfully we follow these simple values and rules:
Doing these consistently enables us to create relationships with young people that will lead to positive changes in their lives.
After we have achieved a trustworthy relationship, the real hard work can commence. Our main focus now is building resilience against their ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and other traumatic experiences. We do this simply by talking, sharing experiences and exposing them to the difficult emotions. In short, we treat them as a skill. The more we practice, the better we can get at managing it.
